Earliest Evidence Ever of Malaria in Human

Results of a recent ground-breaking study of the DNA of Egypt’s mummies has revealed that King Tut (Tutankhamun), the famous boy king, most likely died from malaria and complications from an infection caused by a broken leg. The two-year long study, which included DNA testing and CT scans of the 3,300 year old mummy, provides the earliest evidence ever found of a malarial infection in a human.

Malaria Concerns in Haiti

In the recent weeks since the devastating earthquake in Haiti, the logistics team of Bestnet Europe Ltd. has been very busy working to offer the fastest and most economical freight & transportation solutions for shipments of Netprotect® for the many NGO’s, faith based organizations and UN agencies who have all worked so hard to get immediate aid into Haiti.

With the help of many airlines and shipping lines, the logistics team has been able to immediately supply freight solutions and fast options for the transport of Netprotect® long lasting insecticidal nets to the affected areas of Haiti, especially to the disaster area concentrated in and around Port-Au-Prince.

Netprotect® donation in Malawi

In February 2009, Bestnet Europe donated 2000 Netprotect® long lasting insecticidal nets and delivery to Malawi, Africa. The donation of the nets was intended as a gift to hospitals in Malawi where they are experiencing a growing need for ways to fight the malaria epidemic.

Apparently the urgency of the need for nets was not shared by the Malawi customs authorities, who detained the nets in custom and demanded that the voluntary relief organization CHAM paid a 60% duty on the donation from Bestnet Europe.

For Africans, By Africans

“Give a man a fish; and you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime” (Author Unknown).

At Bestnet, we are very aware that being successful in the transfer of technology requires more than simply moving high tech equipment into or within the developing world. True success only comes when local partners in their respective countries have been properly educated in all aspects of the technology, as well as educated regarding the organizational and managerial procedures that will help to make them self-sufficient, and successful in the long-term.
